Powerless!

I had just got in bed last night, hadn't even turned out the light, when the power went out. And stayed out. We're used to the little power surges -- you know, the ones where the power goes out for about 7 seconds, just long enough so that you have to reset ALL the digital clocks in the house! But when it went out last night and didn't come back on right away, I figured it would be out for a little while. I immediately started trying to figure out a back-up plan for everything. I keep a second alarm clock -- battery powered -- in the night stand so I got it out and set it, then I set the alarm on my cell phone as well, just in case. At least we were going to bed, so I didn't have to worry about opening the fridge until morning. I was a little concerned about how I would get the car out of the garage if the power wasn't back on this morning, but then I remembered the little red thingie that hangs down off the garage door opener. I'm pretty sure that's "manual override". I woke up about 3:30 and looked out the window and saw what I thought were power company trucks parked up the hill, then the power came blazing back on (hooray!) at about two minutes to four. Which was pretty good timing, considering that the alarm was set for four.

I'm thankful to have electricity to begin with and I'm thankful that it's back on and I'm thankful that it wasn't off any longer than it was so I don't have to dump the fridge and freezer. I know I take flipping a switch for granted. I need to be more grateful for my blessings.

Karen, so glad that the power didn't interrupt your stitching time! And yes, we all tend to take this wonderful electricity for granted, until we don't have it anymore! What a blessing, how in the world did people cope BEFORE? (^-^)

Glad the power went out during your bedtime. I agree with you about taking electricity for granted. ~Dawn~
