Well, the end of July is comin’ ‘round the mountain, and I have read exactly this many books from that pile:
To be fair, I am almost finished with the Agatha Christie book. It’s very good but it’s not exactly un-put-downable – I read a chapter here and a chapter there – and it’s probably of interest only to Dame Agatha’s fans (such as myself). Of course, being almost finished with Agatha is probably balanced a bit by the fact that I was part-way through Blackout when I posted the pic. The two library books didn’t hold my interest, and I just haven’t gotten to Madeleine Albright yet. These are part of the problem:
I stopped into B&N one evening to buy The Double Comfort Safari Club (which I’ve read and enjoyed) and walked out with all of these ::sigh:: which were added to the summer reading list. And I’ve read other things, as well. It was kind of silly to try to plan to read anything in a specific time period, because I’m a mood reader. Doesn’t matter if it’s on my list, if I’m not in the mood for it, it won’t get read until I am. I’m betting that I’m not the only person like that..
Here’s my current read, The Loved One, by Evelyn Waugh (drat it! I forgot to rotate the picture! My bad.)
My guy and I watched the movie based on this book a couple of weeks ago; it was definitely off-center and a bit bizarre, so I decided I needed to read the book for comparison. Both the book and the movie are a send-up of Hollywood and the funeral business and are actually not too bad. The book is about 170 pages long and is a pretty quick read. So far the movie is pretty faithful to the book, just a few alterations to some of the details. What are you reading this summer? And I’m curious, where do you get your books? I try not to buy too many – both for financial reasons and lack of space – so I like to get as many as I can from the library. I re-read books, as well. I have about 4 books that I re-read regularly, every couple of years or so, and several others that I also like to re-read, though not as often.
So happy stitching and happy reading – TTFN!

I'm nearly done with The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri and after that it will either be Water for Elephants or The Other Side of the Story by Marian Keyes - perfect chicklit summer reading LOL.
I'm a member of a UK-based bookswap site so I've been getting a few books from there, for the cost of postage. It can be a bit hit and miss though, so I tend to use the secondhand departments of Amazon or Play or sometimes Ebay. I'm not fussed about getting brand-new books, as long as the books are clean and not too mangled so this works well for me and is the cheapest I've found. Our library never seems to have what I want, so I've given up with that a little bit.
I tend to read books on my iPad or listen to them on my iPod. I've read a few different things. The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville, The Quickening Maze by Adam Foulds, The Hundred Foot Journey by Richard Morais, and Stone's Fall by Iain Pears to name a few. I'm currently reading Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English by Natasha Solomons. I have to admit, before my iPad, I would end up being bad in Barnes and Noble a lot. lol! And yes, I'm a mood reader as well.
Hi Karen! I so enjoy reading your blog. Anyway, I'm currently reading "Truck, a Love Story" by Michael Perry but I have so many more books to read as I go to B&N quite frequently too. I just bought a nook earlier this month and am enjoying that too. You can check out library books on the nook via your computer (technology!!!) plus B&N offers free books for the nook. You can also try samples of books to see if you want to buy them or not. I think it's another addiction!
Karen, nice blog! I'm reading "The Last Time They Met" by Anita Shreve, one of my favorite authors. I just ordered some used books from Amazon Marketplace which can be a very economical place to buy them. Every book automatically has a $3.99 shipping charge, but many books are so low priced that you can get them for not much over that. I just ordered a couple of Anita Shreve's for 1 cent each and another for $1.37. And they are all hardbacks, my favorite kind. Good luck!
