Ahhh, it's another Thursday. That means it's the day before Friday and just a day away from the weekend. Woohoo!
First, some stitching. I'm coming down the home stretch on England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales. I'm working on the Scottish flag; when that's done, all that will be left is the fourth corner containing three thistle designs.
I'm not sure how I'll finish this. It's designed to be a mini-pillow, but I'm thinking I may put it in a simple frame and put it on an easel on our foyer table.****
Did you catch the eclipse the other night? I must admit that I forgot all about it. I remembered it when I went out the front door at about 6:15am and saw the moon in the western sky. The eclipse was just shy of totality at that point. My morning commute takes me across a bridge over the Potomac River, just below Harpers Ferry; the view is spectacular any day of the week, but as I was going across, I took a quick glance to the west and got a glimpse of the eclipsed moon hanging over Harpers Ferry. It was, in a word, breathtaking.

I didn't post my summer reading plans this year, but that doesn't mean I haven't been reading! I just finished Killing Patton, by Bill O'Reilly; very interesting. I also read an excellent biography of Sally Ride, by Lynn Sherr, as well as a book called The Lost Art of Dress, by Lindy Przybyszewski. That one is basically a history of women's dress over the course of the 20th century, with a focus on women who the author refers to as "the dress doctors", designers and home economists who urged women to dress practically and appropriately for the task at hand. It was much more interesting than I expected it to be and I recommend it if you're interested in the topic.
I'm a big fan of the Brother Cadfael books by the late Ellis Peters and have been gradually re-reading them over the past year or so. Right now I'm reading An Excellent Mystery, which is one of my least favorites in the series but is still a very good book. The books are well-written historical mysteries set in 12th century England -- highly recommended.

DH has been out of town this week so the cats and I have been going it alone. I will be so glad when he gets home; darn, I miss that man!
That's all for this Thursday...wishing everyone a good rest-of-the-week and happy stitching!

Love this design so much! I'm looking forward to seeing your finish! I hear you on missing your man. I hate when my man goes away on business too.
I have that design kitted up to take on holiday with me in a weeks time. Meanwhile I try to finish off current projects!
Lovely work on your stitching Karen :)
That's such a lovely design.
I like the Brother Cadfael series as well. I first read about it many years ago in the now-defunct Herb Companion magazine.
Oh, and if you are a fan of mysteries, I recommend the Aimee Leduc series by Cara Black. Great plots, characterizations, and settings!
